What the fuck is ColdRice?
ColdRice is rock n' roll events operating primarily in Birmingham,
England. We used to be monthly on a Sunday, then we moved to a weekly
Saturday and now it's just whenever the hell we feel like it.
We also occasionally put records out and have a lovely podcast for you to subscribe to.
What kind of music is played?
In the past when ColdRice held it's legendary monthly Sunday night
service at Bar Academy, we have been host to live shows from such
acts as Bob Log III, Speedball Baby, The Soledad Brothers, 20 Miles,
The Lonesome Organist, The Hunches, Federation X, Mr. Airplane Man
and supplied music for aftershow parties for bands like Jon Spencer
Blues Explosion, The Breeders, Har Mar Superstar and The Von Bondies...
At The Saturday shakedown we were lucky enough to have the likes of
The Dirtbombs, Weird War, American Death Ray Music, The Ponys, The
Black Lips, The Midnight Evils, the Little Killers, Dead Brothers,
Lost Sounds, The Coachwhips, The Woggles, Immortal Lee County Killers...
you dig?
we also have 2 resident bands Copter and The Big Bang
who rock the party on regular occasions, you can get more info about
them here.
As for the music played by the DJs Adam J (Wheels) and Caz, anything in
their record collection can be heard (and it's all good enough for
Meg White and Kim Deal to shake their boots to).... Eric B to Johnny
Cash, Rogers Sisters to Devo, we won't insult your intelligence with
an all encompassing slogan or take up your time with a huge list of
bands... Garage trash, punk blues, rock & roll, rock & soul,
electric, eclectic it's all good... Feel free to bring stuff along
with you, make requests and buy the DJs drinks.
Subscribe to our podcast to see the kind of stuff that comes thru the speakers.
Who's
sailing this ship?
Ah you want to buy them drinks and shower them with love to show your
gratitude? Ask for Carlton or Stevie, if they are hiding speak to any of the members of Copter.
Are
there always live bands at ColdRice?
Now we're only putting events on when we feel like it, there's a good
chance it will be because we've got a band from across the pond that
we really want you to see, but you never know, sometimes we might
just want to party... we'll keep you informed on the website, with
posters n' flyers in y'r favourite record shops and thru telekinesis
(if you're susceptible to that kind of thing). Or sign up for our
mailing list and stay more informed than we are. Will
it cost me money?
You want all that for free? Well I suppose in an ideal world... but
the bands need fuel for their van and whiskey for their nerves, and
we need money to buy the man's silence and pay for the venue, so our
regular door price will be £5, and the majhority of events will require you to be a badge-wearing
member (just sign up for the mailing list fool, that's all it takes!)
ColdRice operates without
any outside funding/interference so we need you to contribute in
order to keep this thing rolling. This isn't our job, we are doing
this because we love it, we all have other things that put bread
in our pockets and mouths and we don't take a bean from this.
First we make sure the bands have everything they need (money, food,
drink, place to stay etc.) then we cover expenses (advertising,
room hire etc.) and ANY profit made at an event (occasional, small)
goes straight back in the kitty for the next event. We want to keep
door prices low but still get these bands we love to come and play
in our fair city.
When we're rich businessmen we'll let you all in for free. But then
when we're rich businessmen we won't have the soul left to do this
thing.
Will I ever need tickets for ColdRice events?
No it's generally a pay on the door affair, there are certain events we may have
to charge a little more for but we'll let you know about that when
it happens.
Can I get more information?
MORE information? Curiosity killed Ben whatsisface with the dodgy
legs and the beret you know...
