Vinny & The Curse (R.I.P)

COLDRICE SAYS:
It was obvious from the beginning that Scott wold come up with something great when he packed his bags and moved on from The Big Bang, and he didn’t dissapoint. We watched Vinny and the Curse grow from an insane one man band to a primitive 2 piece and then into the 3 man juggernaut that blew audiences away until the end. Vinny and the Curse was another band that we are proud to have on our roster, and as a ColdRice lifer, whatever is next for Scott will have a home right here.
BIO:
Vinny & The Curse are a three piece band formed in Birmingham, England by Scott Vincent Abbott (The Big Bang) and Richard Franklin (The Mobsters) in early 2009.
The initial setup was deliberately basic, with just guitar, two drums and vocals. The songs were raw, usually clocking in at under 2 minutes, with Rich playing his drum kit standing up, thrashing out frantic beats with Scott playing through a selection of battered and often homemade amplifiers.
Early gigs picked up glowing reviews and a 7” single “The Suicide Twist” soon followed through Birmingham’s Coldrice Records.
Spring 2010 saw the addition of John Presley (The Rivers Presley Set) on baritone/bass guitar, as well as “smouldering pouts” to quote one review. This enabled the band to tackle more complex song structures, whilst freeing Scott for extended guitar freak-out’s over a relentless rhythm section.
Autumn 2010 saw the bands reputation grow with several packed out gigs and glowing reviews, as well as the recording of a 6 track EP “The Psychic Foot” at Voltalab Studios in Rochdale.
With the lineup now complete the band’s sound has elements of 13th Floor Elevators garage-psych, but with a muscular beef more akin to Bleach-era Nirvana. Songs vary from horror-tinged slices of goth-a-billy, to sprawling guitar abuse workouts set to samba beats.
A tightly delivered live show never fails to ignite a crowd, with tracks delivered loud, fast and in the words of one reviewer “with the relentless feel of a freight train about to come off the tracks”.
