What is?

ColdRice is events, a record label, and a home for rock n’ roll operating out of Eastside, Birmingham England since 2001.

Events

Since 2001 ColdRice has provided a platform for international artists that might otherwise not be brought to Birmingham and for local acts to get involved and inspired by music they might not have already been aware of.

In 2000 very few interesting, smaller acts were visiting Birmingham due to the lack of promoters (with the notable Exception of Capsule and Stay Sick) and lack of decent venues, meaning if you lived in Birmingham and wanted to experience any non-mainstream culture you had to travel to other cities, usually London. Operating on a strict DIY or die attitude, members of local band Copter and local promoter Carlton Wainwright created ColdRice as a way to bring the acts to Birmingham and help build a healthy, thriving scene that would influence others and inspire creativity.

Via ColdRice we built our own stage (sometimes literally!), created a scene that excluded no one, encouraged people to take part, and through strong ethics and treatment of the artists as priority, created a solid foundation that promoters, booking agents and artists alike have come to trust.

Since then we have been host to acts from USA, Brazil, Hawaii, Australia, Japan and all over Europe,  this has turned ColdRice into a worlwide network with a family of close-knit Birmingham based friends and musicians at the heart.

Studio and Label

ColdRice’s headquarters ‘Fazeley Park’ is home to  a recording facility (where most ColdRice recordings are made), a 4 room rehearsal space for local bands and it’s very own private club ‘The Tight Pussy’ which has been home to many of the legendary ‘ColdRice Underground’ parties, building even further on the great house party, juke joint reputation ColdRice events have gained.

The label, ColdRice Records, is the next natural progression, producing small runs of vinyl, and digital downloads available at www.coldrice.com.

We hope it  will soon be home to recordings by not only our house bands and UK friends, but as many of our international friends as possible.
